JIRA Data Center

Atlassian has long been recognised as a leading player in the Enterprise software industry, certainly with regards to software development, and their latest announcement is a big statement regarding their ambitions for the Enterprise.

Data Center is a new deployment option, currently for JIRA and Confluence (with Stash in Beta), that is designed for high availability and performance at scale when hosting Atlassian’s applications in your own data center.

Atlassian say that around 25,000 companies and their 8.5 million employees use JIRA daily. With the Data Center version of JIRA, larger companies will be able to support and scale easier, leading to improvements in performance and stability.

How does Data Center work?

With Data Center administrators will be able to route certain applications, teams or geographies to specific nodes in a cluster. Additional nodes can be added in real time and the clustering technology, and shared file systems are integrated with most industry standard technologies.

Historically scaling JIRA meant complex tuning of very large single instances or federating multiple JIRA instances throughout an organization. Although practical these solutions did not match the flexibility deployed in many Enterprises through virtual infrastructures.

Now, with Data Center, Enterprises get active-active clustering to ensure users have uninterrupted access to critical applications in the event of unexpected hardware failure. Distribute load across your cluster utilizing any load-balancing technology – hardware or software based.

You can also integrate with industry standard technologies for database clustering and shared files systems to eliminate single points of failure in your architecture. For more information check out Ken Olufsen’s blog here.

How much will JIRA Data Center cost?

JIRA Data Center is available at $24,000.00 per year, per tier of 1,000 users. Also, as we mentioned in our recent blog, Atlassian have restructured their licensing models to account for the new Enterprise offering.

JIRA Data Center requirements
