Atlassian Crowd New Apache Subversion Connector

Atlassian Crowd New Apache Subversion Connector

With the release of Atlassian Crowd 2.1, Atlassian has provided a new Apache Web Server connector that can be used to manage the authentication and authorisation of your Subversion repositories http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CROWD/Integrating+Crowd+with+Apache.

Whilst previous versions of the connector have enabled users and groups to be managed through Crowd they have not been able to leverage its Single Sign On (SSO) capabilities and have restricted you to use individual Apache location statements for each of your Subversion repositories, as this did not support the SVNParentPath directive. This was a limiting approach and meant that Crowd was dictating how you managed your Subversion layout and actually added an administrative overhead.

With the move to the REST api in Crowd 2.1, Atlassian have reworked the connector to give you these features along with many more, satisfying over 100 user votes in the process and freeing you to choose how to structure your Subversion layout.

Currently the connector is only available in binary form for Red Hat and Centos operating systems, but a source distribution is available enabling users to build for any platform. Clearvision can provide this service as part of our consultancy offering and are considering releasing Windows binaries. If you wish to know more or are interested in Windows binaries for the Crowd SVN connector then contact us or please take 30 seconds to vote which platform you would like to see supported next http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/65686X5.
