| What’s new in ClearQuest 7.1? |
|
The recent release of IBM Rational ClearQuest 7.1 is the result of a significant number of large-scale functionality changes.
Following the introduction of the Eclipse-based client in IBM Rational ClearQuest version 7.0, ClearQuest version 7.1 sees the introduction of a brand new ClearQuest Designer, completely re-written for Eclipse development environment. The new ClearQuest Designer features syntax highlighting and error checking – not available in previous versions – as well as error visualisation which allows users to quickly pinpoint errors and their knock-on effects within your ClearQuest schema. In addition, the new ClearQuest Designer handles ClearQuest schema revisions much more as separate entities than previously. This small but significant change allows the ClearQuest user to see a much more comprehensive history of their ClearQuest schema revisions as well as being able to compare and merge ClearQuest schema revisions easily. ClearQuest 7.1 also presents a completely brand new web interface. Using Web 2.0 technology it provides an interface comparable in both look-and-feel and functionality to the native ClearQuest client. The highlights include the availability of the Query Wizard for creating queries, full sort capabilities on the query result set and multi-record update capabilities. Other new features include an out-of-box ClearQuest schema – providing IBM Rational ClearCase and IBM Rational Requisite Pro integrations as well as pre-defined, linked record types – and a new ClearQuest Command Line interface which allows a user to modify existing ClearQuest records or add new ones directly at the command line. All of these new features are accompanied by a number of major enhancements in such areas as reporting and security and the net result is that ClearQuest may actually be starting to reach its full potential.
