AT KUBECON + CLOUDNATIVECON, ATLASSIAN ARE MAKING HEADLINES FOLLOWING THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF DATA CENTER PRODUCTS BEING CONTAINERISED BY PRAQMA
The news comes after it was announced that Praqma is launching Atlassian Software in a new solution which allows enterprises to run and manage as containers its on-prem applications such as Jira Data Center.
Kubernetes (AKS), is an open-source system for automating the deployment, scaling, and management of containerised applications.
Containers are grouped together into logical units for easy management and discovery, used to scale and deploy Docker containers and container-based apps across a cluster of container hosts.
Praqma is a continuous Delivery and DevOps consultancy, who partnered with Atlassian to build the solution.
WHAT’S THE NEED?
Running Data Center and ensuring high availability isn’t the easiest job, especially by use of current methods. By containerising applications, scaling and management is made easier while decreases the risk of downtime.
For a number of vendors, containers are becoming the distribution medium of choice. While enterprises move existing applications into containers, it seems logical for existing on-premise applications from third-party vendors to be managed in the same systems.
If a Jira server fails, Data Center redirects traffic to healthy servers automatically, Kubernetes automatically performs the reconciliation should an application or server crash, by recalling a new application.
There is also zero downtime upgrades for Jira.
