Dream Teams: How Top Teams Get Better – The Summary
Behind every great human achievement, there is a team.
Atlassian Co-Founder & Co-Ceo, Scott Farquhar, kicked off the second ever European Summit, with an insightful talk about Atlassian’s mission to radically transform teamwork. He was joined onstage by award-winning journalist, entrepreneur, and bestselling author Shane Snow, who used real life experiences to describe approaches to solutions, which can be applied in any team situation.
He emphasised the importance of everyone within a team, and how utilising the different perspectives of each individual can help you to achieve the shared end goal.
Being open minded in a team is vital. Shane emphasised this by using the well known phrase, “two heads are better than one,” by suggesting that this statement isn’t necessarily true when two heads work in the same way. Conflict isn’t always a negative; it’s not always about, ‘getting along’ in a team but, more so about being open to the different ways in which people work – to enable you to produce better results together. With this in mind, he argued that friction within teams is necessary. Looking at something from the other persons’ perspective can even help you to form new ideas.
Hacks to help you work better as a team:
- Respect the view points of others.
- Don’t be intellectually confident – learning is endless.
- Transcend your current way of thinking – to encourage the ideas of something new.
- Something as small as language, can impact how you are perceived in a team environment.
Separate your ego from your intellect, and work better together.
